Okay, I get why adolescent and prepubescent girls like Twilight. They're still young and have a lot to learn about men, relationships, and life in general (not saying all young girls are this way, but a vast majority tend to be... I didn't know jack squat about these things when I was 12).
But why do full-grown adult women like Twilight? It just doesn't make sense to me. There's no real development of the main characters, the plot is not all that intriguing or believable (and while plots don't always have to be realistic, they should always be believable), and Meyers' writing is mediocre at best.
Not to mention the fact that the heroine (Bella) makes Cinderella look like Lara Croft (seriously, did she ever make a true stand for herself prior to becoming a vampire?). And while I can chalk up the sparkling vampires to creative license, I cannot excuse the werewolves/shapeshifters/whatever you'd like to call them imprinting on babies. And I don't know how any woman with a daughter or niece ever could. It isn't the age difference that bothers me so much as it is knowing that these guys are basically waiting around for these girls to grow up so that they can be married and make babies. Yes, I've heard the argument that the love the werewolves have for their baby-mates isn't romantic... yet. But still, the girls will be raised knowing they're meant to fall in love with these guys at some point. In effect, they're being groomed for them (whether its intentional or not) and that's far too archaic for me to support or condone. It's like a twisted form of arranged marriage.
And... speaking of babies, how was Bella able to get pregnant in the first place? It was never really explained in the books and since Edward is a vampire and therefore (by all accounts) dead, how was he able to produce the sperm?
Again, I'm pleading with someone to explain to me the appeal of this book to mature female adults. If there was at least tons of sex, I could pass it off as a trashy romance novel indulgence, but.... nada.
So what gives?
*Please, keep your responses mature and respectful. Any attempts to bash me for asking a perfectly viable question will be laughed off and, in fact, will make you look like an idiot. Not me.
WARNING: this is a vampire story in part so if you tired of that dont read on. And no I am no Twilight fan I hatted the books and movies.
Now first off Ive had this idea for a long time far before Underword came out by almost 5 years BUT after it came out I dropped the idea as it seemed to close story wise.... but recently have decided to start it anyhow..
Jason and Grace are High school sweethearts. Jason was a semi Nerd/band Geek. Grace Was the female lead in every play yet off the stage was never herself always playing one of her roles for people. Thinking her own life boring and dull she acted all the time which made her popular but very sad inside as not many knew the real her in any significant way. Jason had a crush on her but mainly on the charater she played in the world.. He overhears her crying one day then stumbles in trying to help... Little by little they become friends as he learns about the real her... They both eventually fall in love her with a guy who see the real her and supports her and him in the girl behind the mask which is so much deeper and complex than he had imagined he cant help but be fasinated and fall for her... Over spring break they decide instead of going to the beach or other places with lots of kids to go off by themselves on a small camping trip to be away from people so they could both be themselves without pressure... Jason has beeen trying to tell her His hidden secret for some time.. and he thinks on this trip hes going to do it tell her and show her... They go camping on his uncles land which is heavily forested but safe... As they camp in the middle of the night a group of men that ar e nor men attack them they are vampires... Jason tries to fitght thm off but to no avail ... in the middle of the fight Jason is saved by His pack his family the werewolves though outnumbers are enough to run off the group of vampires but as they leave they take Grace... He doesnt have the chance to tell her he and his family are were wolves.... NOTE(they are not the change at full moon kind they are the ancient protectors of nature and Man from demons and the supernatural... IE mans best friend is the dog the werewolves in my story harken back to a miricle in which god combines wolfdogs and humans so they could forever be together and protect one another) to give the rest a quick overview.... Grace is captured by bad vampires after a sort of confrence with the WW chieften and the vamps about her those vamps are tracked down by the vampire leaders to sustain the truce between the vamps and WWs... but it is to late she has been turned.... IE they ar e reunited each really just learning about there powers and begin a forbinned affair.. which starts a minor war..
there are several sub plots in the background people being used... troops being amassed.... there is even a rgoup of crazed humans that hunt monsters that are trying to SAVE the pair... untill they find they have been changed then try to kill them to help them...
Well thats sort of the gist of it in short form.
No offence taken it is a pat plot even the subplots are not overly inventive which is what when the movie Underworld came out I put it on the back burner.... At the same time I kinda wanna write it and though it is simalar to other things and not very inventive One could say what sold ONCE might sell again... I know thats a Cruddy way of looking at it but hey...
would you read this based on some parts of chapter one?? thanks
Pretender, Guardian, Researcher, and Killer are the four lifestyles that can be chosen from vampires. Pretenders pretend that they’re humans and go on as if they were. They never communicate with vampires or do any vampire abilities or characteristics and just pretend they’re human. Guardians protect humans from other villains, whatever they might be, such as Killers, demons, werewolves, giants, mages, and more. They keep the human world from connecting with the creature world and protect them from it. Researchers learn more about humans and other creatures. They’re the brain of the vampire society. The top Researchers are also the government of the society, too. Killers are the worst. Killers are ones who choose to kill creatures just for the fun of it. Most vampires wouldn’t even consider that, but those who have a thirst for blood, literally, choose to be a Killer.
Tyrana’s a human right now, but on her seventeenth birthday she would transform into a vampire, along with others.
Tyrana breathed into the frosty air. The cold wind surrounded her, making her shiver. The moon was hardly visible through the thick fog.
“Tyrana. What are you doing?”
She spun around, scared to see whom it was.
It was Stryker, a dark-haired guy with chestnut colored eyes. He was wearing his usual torn jeans and no shirt.
Tyrana rose from bed, drenched in sweat. Her dream was first about her loved ones, her father, Stryker, Paxton, more, but soon it was about her birthday. She dreamed about transforming and becoming a vampire, until everyone had turned against her, leaving her alone once she had become one. Then there was a vivid part, as if it was real, when she had seen her mother die. But it wasn’t from an unknown killer like the real murder, but her. She had turned into a monster.
by the way, they aren't in order
I love Twilight, I am pretty much OBSESSED with it. I would never intentionally try to copy or take ideas from Stephenie Meyer's books; this question is strictly to find out other people's opinions. I love to write, and it is my dream to become a bestselling author. I've never fully finished a book, so it is a HUGE accomplishment for me to get this far into my book. By the way, it doesn't include vampires...or werewolves :]
Basically my story is about a seventeen year old girl, Lilly (Lillian) and her sixteen year old sister, Kate, living in Lexington, Nebraska. Her parents are successful international business men, who have traveled the world in spite to fulfill the goal of advancing businesses who are just starting out. Lilly's parents have been assigned to move to London for one year, and Lilly and Kate are allowed to chose to go with them, or live with their uncle, Ron, their only stable living family in Astoria, Oregon. Kate decides to live in London, Lilly chooses to live with Ron. She doesn't have much interest in living in London. When Lilly goes to school, particularly in her literature class, she meets a boy, Peter, who is somewhat peculiar looking. His skin is pale, but it's almost like ice...it has this bluish tint to it. His hair is dark auburn, but not long, and not too short...and it is also wavy like the ocean. His eyes are dark gray, and he is very, very attractive. She also sees his family, (6 siblings) and they too have the same dark gray eyes, odd looking skin, and dark hair. Lilly learns from her friend that the family has lived in a lot of places in the US and moved to Astoria about a year ago. Their father is an opthamlogist (eye surgeon.) Three of the children were adopted by the wife, who was married previously. The others were from the father's previous marriage. They are all together, except for Peter, the youngest brother (A sophmore named Nolan whom you find out later is his actual biological brother) and a very beautiful female sibling named Calista. Later Kate (who at first wasn't very nice to her, but then they become very close) moves back to stay with her. Kate (a sophomore) meets Nolan. Anyway, you find out that the family is a group of immortal merpeople. But, they don't have tails. When submerged in water for atleast one minute, they transform into their real selves. Their hands become webbed and enlarged, their feet become flipper-like, and they have a set of gills lining their neck and their eyes turn the color of the water. Astoria is a rainly, cloudy place, and they can't live in sunny places because it dehydrates them. Their eyes are always gray because it matches the overcast sky. So anyway Lilly and Peter fall in love, and Kate and Nolan fall in love. By the way, you find out later that none of them really were related (except for Peter and Nolan who really are biological brothers) they were all transformed. In every drop of a merperson's blood is one cell. This cell is like the nucleus of a normal cell - it controls everything. If a drop of their blood is injected in a human's system, they would eventually transform into a merperson. Their blood is made up of two elements being water and salt, and is blue. This is the reason their skin is somewhat bluish, because even though their skin is DIAMOND hard, a little blue still shows through. Because their blood is made of salt and water, they need saltwater to live (many times at lunch she would see the family drinking "murky water". Later you find out that's saltwater). However, there is one other thing that merpeople crave: human skin. And that is because it is salty. But Peter doesn't crave Lilly's skin (same for Nolan and Kate) because he is meant to be with her. There is a group of merpeople called the Hawaiians, and they've created most of the merpeople. They were sort of like the original group. They set the rules for all merpeople, and the main rule is to never interfier with humans. If any clan of merpeople were too, the humans and clan would be killed. One day the hawaiians see Lilly and Peter together and plan to kill Lilly, Peter, and his family for breaking the law. However they don't see Kate, so she is not doomed. Lilly decides to sacrifice herself, because she loves Peter so much, and couldn't imagine a world where he didn't exist. But of course, Peter saves her in the end and no one dies! Oh, and the point of view is from Lilly! please be honest, because I need constructive criticism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if anyone does think it is too much like Twilight, PLEASE tell my why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I am a vampire, and I just learned that my girlfriend is a werewolf. I don't know how this is going to work.....I love her, but she cannot control herself as a werewolf. I can't risk myself dying because of her. Should I kill her as a human, and just go out with some little Twilight fan. Make her become a vampire and let her know what it's really like being a vamp.....if she believes that vampires can go out when the sun is out, then to bad, she's dead.....
Can someone help me? Please give me some real answers. I'm being serious!
Let it be known I hate Twilight to. It puts Vampires to shame....
Here's a little paragraph explaining whats goin on kinda.
The legends and myths about vampires, werewolves, witches and shape-shifters were real in my world. Long ago there was a peace treaty between the Dark Knights, which you’d call the vampires and beyond and the Knights of Light. The people in the village started disappearing. The master of the knights of light learned that the dark knights had been feeding on their humans. They started a war. A young human girl suddenly falls for a werewolf in the Dark Knights and in order for the war to stop is that she has to become one of them
Wat do you think and what do i need to do to improve
Last spring, I was discussing my new monsters that I spawned for a horror novel. It's a monster that I dreamed of. Sometimes when I'm either waking up or going to sleep, I hear words as I'm in my subconscious state of mind. They sound like the names of objects or places. I've even heard real-sounding names. I dreamed of a certain kind of creature that's very similar to a vampire. I call it "the wungwah." Like the vampire, a wungwah sucks the blood of its victim. Think of it as half-spider/half-vampire. That's the best way I can describe it. The wungwah never ages and lives forever like the vampire. Like when a person turns into a vampire or a werewolf, they will do the same when they turn into wungwahs. The area around their eyes turn black while the person develops black spots all over their skin like a leopard. They develop fangs, too. Instead of growling l, they hiss. The wungwah can turn it's victim into a wungwah if he/she chooses. They do this by biting the person and injecting them with venom like a snake or spider would. Most people think spiders eat their prey, but all they do is drink the blood. The same is true for the wungwah. Like vampires, wungwahs must also feed. Like Spider-man, the wungwah crawls along walls and ceilings and jumps very high. They move at brisk paces and have super-human strength. They travel underground like moles rather than fly through the air. Unlike other folklore, the wungwah originates in The Amazon.
The wungwah was spawned when the shaman of an Amazon Tribe drank potion made of venom, gypsum, belladonna, mandrake, datura, and morning glories. The shaman gave the potion to his tribe so they would turn into wungwahs to defend themselves against the Portuguese and Spanish invaders. The wungwah spread into surrounding areas of Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. They made their way into Central America through The Panama Canal. As they progressed through Central America, the made their way into Mexico and into the United States. The wungwahs made their way across the ocean through cargo planes and ships. This is where ships and planes disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. They became meals on wheels for the wungwahs. Just as they have the name "nosferatu" for the vampire, they have a name for the wungwah. That name is "battaranda." Battaranda means "nightcrawler" in the native language of the tribe that became the wungwahs. The wungwahs made their way back to Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. This was another part of Montezuma's revenge. Some of the Aztecs, who became wungwahs, infected some Spaniards. Ferdinand Magellan was killed in The Philippines when the wungwahs overtook his ship and nearly drank the crew dry. The remaining members were the ones defeated the wungwahs so they could return to Spain after carrying out Magellan's legacy.
There are only three ways to kill the wungwah. Those ways are fire, salt water, and beheading. That was how the Spaniards defeated them. They realized they had to throw the wungwahs overboard to make them disintegrate in the salt water. The Portuguese were also successful in some efforts. Many vampire slayers were killed fighting wungwahs. They learned that they were fighting the wrong monster. When they tried to stake them through the heart, all they did was infuriate the wungwahs which then lead to the slayers' demise. Many people in Mexico and the Southwestern United States mistook the wungwahs for chupacabras. Like werewolves, the wungwahs travel in packs. Whenever they hang, they encircle their victims and spew venom into the person's eyes. Now the slayers face a new challenge. The only place you'll be safe from one of these is in salt water. Either that or you'll need a torch. The Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas were the only ones able to defend themselves against wungwahs. By surrounding their fortresses with torches, they were able to repel the wungwahs. Wungwahs are afraid of fire the same way that a vampires are afraid of crosses. An effective team of wungwah hunters would wear fireproof suits and carry flamethrowers. Or they would have to carry lots of swords to behead them. So now you know the legend of my new monster. How do you like the wungwah?
It looks like a person with giant black spots all over it's body like a leopard.
Well, I understand it seems slightly harsh, but I wrote this to thoroughly explain why I didn't like the book. I really hate it when people say that they hate something, but don't explain themselves. And I never meant the book FAILS as in won't make money... because it WILL. I meant, that it fails as an ending to this series. It was more like fan fiction.
I thought that Stephenie had a great chance to send a message to her readers, and instead she just patted us on the head and gave us a lollipop. I felt condescended to. As thought she didn't think we could handle a heavy ending to this story.
I've never written my own book, but I've studied literature for years. It's part of my job. So I find joy in analysis. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much good in this book no matter how deeply I delved into analyzing it. Probably because this book isn't too deep, unlike the rest of the series.
(I still LOVE the rest of the series.)
NO! It's not true that ANYTHING can happen in a fantasy just because it is fantasy. There HAS to be rules. Otherwise it's pointless because you can never really believe any of it.
Stephenie Meyer set up her world and her rules. I was willing to believe in them, but as an author, you HAVE to continue to FOLLOW the rules in order to have your audience continue to trust you. Once she breeched this, I no longer trusted her, as a reader.
It's her responsibility as an author to keep her audience's trust. She seemed to have forgotten this.
If the continuity is compromised, then why should I believe in this world she created for us? I couldn't, even though I wanted to.
You all doubt in such things but when it comes to Santa Claus theres no doubt even as a child,, But when werewolves come into question you all doubt, and that little werewolf knowledge that humans have is funny. Hairy palms please I will be more than willing to find a werewolf if they had hairy palms.
Werewolves ca not turn that easily,, it takes time and energy. The craving is the first to get to you, but unless you are born of it you can not over come the craving at free will. Why do you all doubt?
Why cant they be real? Are you all afraid that if they were real it would mess up your human history?, or it would become a nightmare?... They are not that bad,, Soem are good, Werewolves are not all bad, they dont kill like crazy. (has much fasination with werewolves).. I'm not crazy, just learned never to doubt. So tell me why humans doubt the exsistence of werewolves and vampires?
